Purpose
In Evergreen Primary School, the Holistic Health Framework (HHF) guides us to bring together our key programmes, structures and processes that develop the cognitive, affective, moral, physical, and social health of our students.
Process
The HHF focuses on holistic development and well-being which goes beyond weight and fitness to encompass the holistic development and domains of students’ well-being. We hope to develop the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes of every student to live healthily through quality delivery by trained teachers and qualified learning partners.
People
Our school PE department collaborates closely with our learning partners like Health Promotion Board, Singapore Heart Foundation, SportSG/ActiveSG and others to carry out programmes to develop students holistically through awareness and activities.
Coaching by Teachers - 1-to-1 mentoring programme for students who need more support
This programme allows PE teachers to coach, encourage and motivate students to adopt and sustain their healthy lifestyle habits via a regular platform for students to meet the teachers to share their progress and lifestyle habits. This programme focuses on behaviour modification with the purpose of weight loss in the long run and not immediate.
We strongly encourage parents to play an active role in the journey by sharing health and fitness related information and talks to help the students cultivate good lifestyle and eating habits.
Programmes
In the effort to promote an active and healthy lifestyle, our department programs are catered to allow students to
Our yearly activities for students include:
-
Recess Unstructured Play - UPLAY
-
Swimsafer 2.0
-
P5 Outdoor Adventure Learning Camp
Impact
To promote a positive attitude towards continual participation in physical activities for health, fitness and enjoyment.
UPLAY is a recess initiative by the PE department to give students the opportunity to be actively and purposefully engaged during their recess through unstructured play.
UPLAY
Recess is an essential part of the school day that offers students valuable opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and mental rejuvenation. Unlike structured classroom time, unstructured play allows children to explore, create, and collaborate freely, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and emotional resilience. Regular breaks and unstructured play have been linked to improved focus, behavior, and academic performance, making them a vital component of a well-rounded education. Prioritising time for play supports not only students’ physical health but also their overall well-being and development. During uPLAY, CCA Leaders are given the opportunity to exercise their leadership in guiding their peers and taking charge of the games.
In addition to outdoor activities, indoor games such as board games, like
scrabble and chess, are engaging alternatives that promote strategic thinking,
cooperation, and patience.

At Evergreen Primary School, all Primary 3 students participate in the SwimSafer programme, where they are introduced to essential swimming skills and water safety knowledge in a structured and supportive environment.
Through the programme, students learn to demonstrate respect by following safety rules, listening attentively to instructors, and being considerate of others in shared aquatic spaces. They develop responsibility by taking ownership of their personal safety and making informed decisions in and around water. At the same time, students build resilience as they overcome challenges, persevere through practice, and grow in confidence in mastering new skills.
Under the guidance of certified instructors, students acquire proper swimming techniques alongside a strong understanding of key water safety practices. This holistic experience enables our students to become confident and competent swimmers, equipped with the values and skills to enjoy aquatic activities safely for life.

P5 Outdoor Adventure Learning (OAL) Camp
At Evergreen Primary School, our 3 Days 2 Nights Adventure Camp offers Primary 5 students a meaningful and transformative outdoor learning experience beyond the classroom. Set against the backdrop of nature, students take part in a range of engaging and challenging activities that stretch their limits and foster personal growth.
Through these experiences, students practise respect by valuing their peers, instructors, and the environment, and demonstrate care as they look out for and support one another. They learn responsibility by taking ownership of their roles and decisions, while upholding integrity in their actions during team and individual tasks. As they step out of their comfort zones, students build resilience by persevering through challenges, and cultivate harmony by working collaboratively to achieve common goals.
The thoughtfully designed programme provides opportunities for students to take on leadership roles, contribute ideas, and solve problems together. As they navigate both team-based and individual challenges, students develop confidence, adaptability, and stronger bonds with their peers.
This immersive experience not only creates lasting memories but also strengthens character, empowering our students to grow into confident individuals who embody our school values in their everyday lives.
