Malay Dance
Malay Dance CCA at Evergreen Primary School aims to develop students’ interest in the traditional art form of Malay cultural dance.
Students learn the fundamental movements and techniques of various Malay dance genres, such as Asli, Inang, Joget, Masri and Zapin. Training sessions begin with basic dance techniques before gradually progressing to more advanced choreography. Through regular practice, students develop flexibility, poise, balance, coordination and stage presence.
Beyond dance skills, the CCA also nurtures important values and dispositions such as resilience, self-discipline, teamwork and appreciation for culture and the performing arts. Students learn to express themselves confidently while gaining a deeper understanding of Malay heritage and cultural traditions.
Our dancers are given opportunities to showcase their talents at various school events, celebrations and community performances. They also participate regularly in the Singapore Youth Festival, where they gain valuable stage exposure and experience. Through these platforms, students build self-confidence, learn to support one another, and grow together as a team.
Through Malay Dance CCA, we hope to provide our students with an enriching learning experience that nurtures them as confident performers, gracious team players and appreciative learners of culture and the arts.
